The James Island Junior Theater Presents, “The Wizard of Oz”

Follow the yellow brick road with Charleston’s youth community theatre!
The Charleston Performing Arts Center (C-PAC) is thrilled to present the James Island Junior Theatre and
its second production, The Wizard of Oz! The James Island Junior Theatre is comprised of local youth actors, age 7-18, and performs at the C-PAC theatre at 873 Folly Road on James Island.
The Wizard of Oz opens on February 2nd and runs through February 11th. Tickets are $5.00 (age 4-10),
$10.00 (age 11-17) and $20.00 for adults.  This beloved tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has been entertaining audiences for generations.
Dorothy Gale, a young girl living on a Kansas farm with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, dreams of
escaping her mundane life. The family’s mean neighbor, Miss Gulch, threatens to impound Dorothy’s
dog, Toto, so Dorothy and Toto run away. They meet up with kindly Professor Marvel, who subtly
convinces Dorothy to return home. Suddenly a cyclone hits, and Dorothy and Toto, seeking shelter in the
house, are transported to the Land of Oz where she meets The Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and The
Cowardly Lion, Glinda, and The Wicked Witch of The West. The rest of the story is well-known to all.
There’s no place like home!
The Wizard of Oz is directed by Scott Pfeiffer and choreographed by Savannah Schoenborn. Andrea Roule is the Music Director.
The success of two prior Kids on Stage (a C-PAC youth outreach program) productions demonstrated the
need for providing quality theatrical education and performing opportunities for James Island, Johns
Island and Folly Beach Youth. James Island Junior Theatre’s approach to the rehearsal process
encourages cast members to Learn, Experiment, Apply and Perform (LEAP).
The Wizard of Oz is the second of 4 productions scheduled for this season of the James Island Junior Theatre. Upcoming shows
include Disney’s Peter Pan Jr. and Hairspray Jr
.
