The Shifa Clinic’s Annual Benefit Dinner will take place on January 27, 2018

Sixth annual dinner will support the clinic, food pantry and other programs while providing ordinary people to build extraordinary relationships and communities in the Tri-County area.

The Shifa Clinic’s Annual Benefit Dinner will take place on January 27, 2018 at the Marriott on Lockwood Blvd. In its 6th year, the event features special guests and speakers Dr Abdulhakim Mohamed, President of Asia Humanitarian Aid and Director of Development of IMANA which is the largest network of American Muslim Health care professionals serving the underserved, and local Charlestonian, Jennet Robinson Alterman, a Non Profit Consultant and Women’s Rights Advocate. Hosted by the Shifa Clinic, the event serves to support fundraising efforts for their services for the coming year. This banquet event is meant to raise awareness to the public and connect donors to the clinic. Last year’s event raised $60,000. Since 2012 there has been over 6500 patient visits and over 18,000 individuals have been served from the food pantry.

“In South Carolina today, an estimated 123,000 residents can’t afford health insurance – and therefore can’t receive desperately needed medical care,” said Shifa Clinic’s Medical Director, Dr. Reshma Khan. “Many of them are unemployed, underinsured, or have fallen through the gaps in the health system where they don’t qualify for federal assistance yet can’t afford monthly insurance premiums.”

The event will feature a silent auction and appetizers and an opportunity for progressive and active dialogue for all.

“Dr. Reshma Khan is an extraordinary force in our community,” says Jennet Robinson Alterman, special guest speaker at the dinner. “She has excellent outreach programs for kids and she provides free medical services to women and children who don’t have insurance or can’t afford to pay usual fees. I am honored to be asked to participate again in the annual Shifa banquet as our values truly align. Now more than ever we must embrace all who serve our community.”

The Shifa Clinic would like to thank their generous part sponsors of the event Roper St. Francis to help make the event possible. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Individual donations and tickets for $50 can be purchased at

About the Shifa Clinic

The core of our mission is to provide compassionate and high quality medical care to uninsured, indigent adult residents of our community regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or national origin and to put into practice the Islamic teachings of compassion, mercy and service to humanity.

The Shifa Clinic is a non-profit and tax exempt clinic established by The Islamic Circle of North America Relief USA (ICNA Relief USA). We are a member of the South Carolina Free Clinic Association.

Our Clinic has been providing compassionate quality advanced Gynecological and Primary health care to the residents of our communities who do not have health insurance and cannot pay for such services. The clinic was established on January 7, 2012 with the financial support of Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Relief USA to eliminate health barriers by offering health services without cost.

The Shifa Clinic is located in Mount Pleasant, SC, but serves the entire Lowcountry. Many of the services we provide cannot be obtained anywhere else in the state at no cost to the patients. Patients must meet the following criteria for free services: be between the ages of 19-64, have no health insurance, and have an income level that falls within 250% of the federal poverty level based on the number of people in the household. Along with medical services, we have three hunger prevention programs including child hunger prevention and a food pantry.
