The culinary and beverage team behind upscale Italian eatery SAVI Cucina + Wine Bar is excited to announce their new concept Sommba Cocina & Cellar, a coastal Spanish and Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and wine bar. Opening early November at 1710 Shoremeade Road, Sommba will serve shareable small plates, handcrafted cocktails and an extensive selection of fine wine.
SAVI’s Culinary Director Michael Semancik will be taking the reins of the Sommba kitchen with a fresh, creative menu featuring plays on coastal tapas like Oyster Confit & Pearls, Octopus a la Plancha, Chef’s Daily Crudos and classic tapas like Paella-inspired Saffron Fried Rice. Full dinner service will be available inside the restaurant as well as on the patio.

With an extensive team of wine and beverage experts, including Simon Kaufmann, Advanced Court of Master Sommelier and Emerson Ewald, Beverage Director of SAVI’s award-winning wine program, Sommba’s wine and cocktail offerings will be a key focal point of the restaurant. Inspired by Co-Founder and Certified Sommelier Ty Raju’s vision and guided by Kaufmann and Ewald, guests will be able to savor 20 sommelier-curated wines by the glass, 350 bottles from the cellar and signature craft cocktails while sitting at the wraparound bar in the center of the dining room. SAVI’s innovative “one size fits one” Wine Club, led by Makayla Woodford, will also extend privileges to Sommba, so members can select where they want to enjoy their personally selected wines.

Hartford, CT based El Pollo Guapo will soon be opening offering their unique style of food and hospitality.

After The Head and the Heart show at Firefly Distillery on Tuesday, Matt Gervais, exhausted after a long set and longer national tour, spent time talking to the fans, taking selfies, and engaging in shared experiences. He selfless act of spending so much time with the Charleston fans reminded us why The Head and the Heart continues to bring crowds in every city and Charleston was no exception.
That commitment to the fans and dedication to the power of the music continues to reflect in live shows in this post-Covid world.
There was a level of energy and love that cannot be easily explained without absorbing a show and seeing the depth of connection. During the set, we witnessed dancing, singing, hugs, and an overall sense of togetherness.
To The Head and the Heart and Firefly, Thank you!
To Charity, Josiah, Jonathan, Matt, Kenny, Chris, and Tyler, thank you for spending time with us and continuing to spread the beauty of your sound.
Here are a few shots we took with the band after Tuesday evening’s show:

About the video
We visited Charleston, South Carolina for the first time. It was a cool city to explore – hope you enjoy this little video we put together! You can find our entire weekend itinerary on my blog.

Are you visiting Charleston, or are you just looking for things to do in the area? There is no shortage of things to do and see here! Charleston was founded in 1670 and is a living museum with an amazing history.
There are a lot of things to do with kids and your entire family, historical things to do, romantic things to do, unique things to do, and there are also plenty of free things to do in Charleston.
There is always something fun to do while you are here, and below is a list of my favorite things to do and see near Charleston!

Since the region around Charleston is frequently referred to as the Lowcountry, its rich Gullah and Creole history is reflected in the food as well as Southern components. Seafood is the absolute staple here, therefore you must try some before you leave.
The freshest catch, locally-mined oysters, She Crab soup, or shrimp (particularly, the shrimp n’ grits, a heavenly combination of local shrimp with creamy grits that’s served in a variety of ways till Sunday, depending on where you visit) are all recommended as first choices when you can.
Finally, and perhaps most crucially, be aware that Charleston’s culture is so established that cuisine is almost like a religion.
