The ability to capture the soul of the human journey is a gift. The joy of pregnancy, the exhilaration of a proposal, the heartache of loss, the unconditional love of family are all part of the roller coaster ride we call life. It is a magical journey of hope, faith, and compassion and Kelly Miles is a photographic visionary in capturing the heart of the moment.
We are so proud to spotlight her amazing talents from the choices of the perfect backdrop to the ideal emotion of the subjects. Kelly connects, understands, and fully embraces her clients to best capture those special moments for all eternity.
I want to introduce myself. My name is Kelly Miles and I am a wife and mother of two beautiful children who fill my heart with joy and love (three if you count our fur-baby, Rocky Bear).
I was born and raised in Scotland, before moving to the United States in High School. I still have an accent (although not as strong as it once was but it comes back with fury when I visit back home) but I also throw in a few southern twang words, too. Yes, Scotland is amazing and beautiful. Yes, you should plan a visit. Yes, I’d love to help you plan a holiday in Scotland.
My love for photography goes hand in hand with my love for traveling, exploring, and having new adventures. For me, photographs are a way to document my family’s life and capture memories. My children’s lives are well documented and each photograph tells a story. When I look at a photograph of my children as babies or a photograph from a family vacation, I am immediately transported back to that moment. The memories flood in and I begin to remember moments and emotions I felt from that time.
Photographs, to me, freeze memories. That’s my aim when I photograph my clients. I want to create beautiful art that they can display in their homes for years to come, but more importantly, I want to capture and freeze memories.
I have been very lucky in that I have photographed my clients in several states, including Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
I am fortunate that my clients come back for each milestone and family photographs. We build a relationship where we chat about our lives and get to know one another on a more personal level. It’s wonderful to start photographing a child as a newborn and watch them grow through my camera lens.
Many people feel strange meeting someone with a camera. It’s not just children who get camera shy. My sessions are relaxed (and I’m really chatty and love talking to people), my clients begin to relax and open up. Our session together will be fun. We will laugh, joke around, and enjoy our time together. When people feel at ease, they smile more genuinely and create more honest photographs.
That’s what I hope to do – capture honest memories.
Let us take a little peek into the heart of Kelly Miles vision and work

Cheers to festivity and holiday fun with Firefly’s three boozy recipes below, perfect for cozy nights by the fire or parties with loved ones, ranging from a Santa-approved spiked hot cocoa, to a powerful punch, to a creamy coconut pie that will have even your baker extraordinaire grandmother begging for the secret ingredient (moonshine?).
Spiked Hot Cocoa
A favorite winter-weather drink with a twist: make a cup of your favorite hot cocoa and add a (generous) splash of Firefly Caramel Moonshine for some sweetness with a kick. Top with mini marshmallows and a light caramel drizzle.
Need help making hot cocoa from scratch? You’ll need…
● 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
● 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar (the more you use, the sweeter it will be)
● A pinch of salt
● 1 cup whole milk
● ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons of milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat until dissolved. Whisk in the rest of the milk and heat over medium heat until hot. Still in vanilla (and moonshine) and serve!
Boozy Firefly Punch
A festive way to spice up your next winter gathering (socially-distanced, of course), this powerful punch uses not one but TWO of our favorite beverages: Firefly Cherry Moonshine and Firefly Lemonade Vodka. Combine 12 ounces of frozen lemonade concentrate with one cup of Firefly Lemonade Vodka and ½ cup Cherry Moonshine in a large bowl or pitcher. Add a generous splash or two of lemon or cherry soda (Cheerwine is a great go-to!) of your choosing and stir together. Garnish with sliced lemons, frozen cherries, or any frozen berries of your choice.
“Better Than Grandma’s” Moonshine Pie
There’s no such thing as skipping dessert around the holidays, especially when there’s booze in it. To make this boozy pie, you’ll need 1 cup light brown sugar, ¼ cup and 1 tablespoon flour, 1 ¼ cups milk, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon Firefly White Lightning Moonshine, 1 (9-inch) pie crust, and 1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes. Combine ¾ cup sugar, flour and salt in a double boiler. Add milk and cook until thickened, around 20 minutes. The Firefly White Lightning Moonshine offers a kick without overpowering the other ingredients.
Place coconut flakes in a large pan over medium heat and toast until golden brown, around 7 minutes. Beat egg yolks until thick. Gradually stir ¼ of the hot mixture into yolks before adding them back to the pot. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, stir in Moonshine and butter, and let cool.
Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add remaining ¼ cup sugar, beating until soft peaks start to form. Fold egg whites into mixture and spoon filling into pie crust. Sprinkle with toasted coconut flakes and chill until set, about four hours.
Jumpstart James Island now accepting online applications for Small Business Working Capital Loans! This is a partnership with the Charleston LDC, a community development financial institution.
The Town of James Island, in partnership with the Charleston LDC (a
community development financial institution) launch “Jump Start James
Island”.
Jumpstart James Island is a program Town Council approved in Sept. of 2020 to provide low-interest working capital loans to small businesses within the Town’s jurisdiction that have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Town understands small businesses cannot benefit from the federal loan assistance programs because of their restrictive guidelines, high minimum loan amounts, and loans being for asset-related items (assets that private lending institutions use as collateral).
Loan amounts range from $2,500 to $25,000 and businesses must be located within the Town of James Island’s jurisdiction and employee less than 25 people. Please see the attached document for a complete overview of the program, eligibility criteria, and loan parameters.
