Adrenaline Monkey Now Offering Summer Camp and Founding Membership Deals

(North Charleston, SC) April 12th, 2024: Adrenaline Monkey, an indoor adventure park, is now offering founding memberships, summer camp, and event bookings in its new Charleston location. Slated for a soft open in June, Adrenaline Monkey will be the only facility of its kind in the area. Offering ninja courses complete with fog and buzzers, mega boulder wall, gamified ninja runs, soft play, vertical adventures, ninja v ninja trac, warped walls, slides, arcade, and event space, Adrenaline Monkey provides endless opportunities for entertainment with something for all ages, skills and abilities.

Conveniently located across from Tanger Outlets in North Charleston, Adrenaline Monkey offers week-long summer camps for children ages 5-12 that feature activities on ninja courses and climbing walls, nutrition and science interactive demonstrations, and limited time in the arcade. Weekly themes are incorporated that promote teamwork, perseverance, and trying new things. Campers will not only improve their ninja skills and athleticism, but will also become more confident, focused, and empowered leaders. Campers are grouped by age, ability, and interest. Half day and full day options are available.

North Point Development finalizes plans for 6 million-square-foot industrial space in Hardeeville, South Carolina

A development company has purchased an 880-acre economic development in Hardeeville that can house up to 6 million-square-feet of warehouse and industrial space.

The buyer, North Point Development, which has offices in Mount Pleasant and Savannah, is finalizing site plans for the South Atlantic Logistics Terminal, with an anticipated groundbreaking in the first half of 2022.

Phase I of the project represents $ 200 million in capital investment. At full buildout, the project is expected to generate more than 550 jobs.

Principal of North Point Development Mark Hall said the company has worked with the City of Hardeeville, Jasper County and the Southern Carolina Regional Development Alliance to make this development happen.

“The combination of a strong market, strong partnerships like these, along with great regional alliances with the Georgia Port Authority and SEDA, we feel we can deliver a great project to the region,” Hall said in a statement.

The South Atlantic Logistics Terminal is located along I-95 and I-17, about 15 minutes from the Port of Savannah.

Hardeeville Mayor Harry Williams said the development will “forever change the landscape” of Highway 17 in both Jasper County and Hardeeville.

“This critical corridor running parallel to I-95 between Exit 5 and the new Exit 3 will be known as the road to success for hundreds of the region’s workforce who are looking to achieve a higher quality of life with good-paying jobs heretofore unavailable in this part of the state,” Williams said. “It will also be a valuable source of new funding for our schools, who are looking to attract the best teachers in the state.”

Investments like North Point Developments will help the state attract future investors to the corridor, said Marty Sauls, chairman of Southern Carolina Regional Development Alliance.

“Sites like this one will create more opportunity and bring high-quality jobs for the hardworking citizens of South Carolina,” Sauls said in a statement. “I am thankful to our allies at North Point Development, as well as Jasper County and the City of Hardeeville for their partnership and support on this important project.”

If you’re a Gen Zer renting in Charleston, you’re likely to shell out a whopping $155,600 on rent by the time you hit the big 3-0 — the 2nd highest amount in all of the Southeast. However, homeownership turns out even pricier. 

new RentCafe study delves into historical housing costs and spending patterns in nearly 200 U.S. metros, using IPUMS data. Specifically, we looked at how much Gen Z and Millennialsspend on renting or owning a home by the time they reach 30.   

Here’s what the data says about Charleston: 

  • The $155,000+ spent on rent by Charleston’s Gen Zers in their 20s is enough to buy a new Tesla. But if they were to buy a home instead, the total costs — including mortgage rates andother fees, but excluding the down payment — would soar to nearly $180,000, the highest cost in the Southeast. 
     
  • However, the $24,000 gap between renting and owning costs in Charleston is smaller than in places like Myrtle Beach, SC; Greenville, SC; or Raleigh, NC (and notably lower than the$42,000 gap faced by Millennials at age 30). 
     
  • Plus, Gen Zers in Charleston are expected to have the 4th highest income in the Southeast by the time they hit 30, at $532,800. This makes it even easier for Charleston Zoomers toswitch from renting to owning a home (provided they have the down payment). 
     
  • In Charleston, Millennials navigating their 20s spent less when it came to renting a place ($131,400) or owning a home ($173,400). However, they also earned less than their youngerpeers by age 30 ($514,000).

In a loving and heartfelt message on Instagram the Glazed team said:

In the nearly 13 years that Glazed has been opened, we’ve won dozens of awards, made thousands of doughnuts and made even more memories. Our customers have become our friends, and our employees have become our family.

  But a business like this is a labor of love. If you lose that passion, it is difficult to continue. That passion was greatly diminished when the heart of Glazed, Allison, was taken from us cruelly and prematurely last year. 

  We have decided to close Glazed. Wednesday, April 17th will be our last day, while we still have echoes of that original love and passion left.

South Carolina House unanimously passes bill to provide clear itemized billing for all healthcare services

By a vote of 107-0, the South Carolina housed passed H-4622 which will ensure all South Carolina hospital and medical care patients receive a clearly written, itemized bill of their healthcare services.

With approval from the Governor, the act will go into affect beginning January 1, 2025.

Details of the Bill

TO AMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS BY ADDING SECTION 44-7-327 SO AS TO ESTABLISH CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS PERTAINING TO ITEMIZED PATIENT BILLING FOR HEALTH CARE SERVICES AND SUPPLIES.

    Amend Title To Conform

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1.  Article 3, Chapter 7, Title 44 of the S.C. Code is amended by adding:

    Section 44-7-327.  (A) For purposes of this section:

       (1) “Debt collection” means an action, conduct, or practice in collecting, or in soliciting for collection, consumer debts that are due or alleged to be due a creditor.

       (2) “Health care provider” means a hospital or ambulatory surgical facility as defined in S.C. Code Section 44-7-130.

       (3) “Health care service” means a service a health care provider provides to an individual to diagnose, prevent, treat, alleviate, cure, or heal a human health condition, illness, injury, or disease.

    (B)(1) Beginning January 1, 2025, a health care provider that requests payment from a patient after providing a health care service or related supply to the patient shall submit with the request a written, itemized bill of the alleged remittance sought for each service and supply provided to the patient during the patient’s visit to the health care provider.  The provider must submit the itemized bill no later than the thirtieth day after the provider receives a final payment on the provided service or supply from a third party.

       (2) The itemized bill must include:

           (a) a plain language description, in accordance with the most current billing reading level requirements and guidance provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, for each distinct health care service and quantity of supply the health care provider provided to the patient;

           (b) the amount the provider alleges is due from the patient for each service and supply provided to the patient; and

           (c) if the provider sought or is seeking reimbursement from a third party, any billing code submitted to the third party, and the patient’s responsibility amount due to the provider pursuant the third party insurer’s explanation of benefits. The third party insurer’s explanation of benefits shall set forth a specific explanation of the patient’s responsibility amount including, but not limited to, whether the amount is a deductible, coinsurance, or noncovered charges.

       (3) A health care provider may issue the itemized bill electronically, including through a patient portal on the provider’s Internet website.

       (4) A patient is entitled to obtain from the health care provider an itemized bill on request at any time after the itemized bill is initially issued under item (1).

       (5) A health care provider may not pursue debt collection against a patient for a provided health care service or supply unless the provider has complied with this section.

       (6) A collection agency is not liable under this section for billing inaccuracies provided by the health care provider.  If any inaccuracies are determined, the collection agency must cease collection activities and return the account back to the health care provider.

    (C) The appropriate licensing authority shall take disciplinary action against the provider for the violation as if the provider violated an applicable licensing law.

SECTION 2.  This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

Colonel William “Danger” Thomson led his militia to repel British war ships in Charleston harbor in 1776 in the Battle of Sullivan’s Island. Francis Marion, the “Swamp Fox,” commanded his own band of men, both black and white, as one of the fathers of modern guerrilla warfare. Emily Geiger took a wild ride as a young spy for the patriots. John Chavis, a free African American soldier from the Orangeburg district, fought with several commanders. Rebecca Brewton Motte courageously helped burn her home on the Congaree River, when General Marion forced the British to surrender Fort Motte.

An over 400-acre park in a fast-developing section of North Charleston through the highlands and wetlands of the Blue House Swamp. The park will be accessed through a series of boardwalks and other pedestrian friendly routes.

Ingleside Park will be a central public open space covering 440 acres. The historic grounds of Ingleside Plantation have been an open area for at least 300 years and will serve as a core area of the future park. This former rice plantation has extensive trails on ancient levees through the rice fields and along the Blue House canal through the bottomland forested spine of the tract with forested upland buffers. The land is otherwise surrounded by mixed-use and industrial development, the Interstate and other public roads. The uplands extend off the Property to adjacent sidewalks, roads, and future development in the North Charleston area.

Recreational uses of the area will vary with the land’s topography and ecological features. Ingleside includes a flat, dry, upland gathering area with significant historic and scenic value. The grounds of the property encompasses over 15 acres which can accommodate small parking areas, picnic areas, and other easily-accessible uses for any visitor to the park. Readily-accessible sites like the ruins of Ingleside, the ancient Live Oaks along the row where slave homes once stood, and easy access to see wetland birds afford a unique opportunity in North Charleston to immerse one’s self in the setting of an historic Lowcountry plantation while within a walking distance of urban populations.

Passive use of the property will also include foot traffic from access points off public roads with sidewalks like Ingleside Boulevard. Multi-family housing and mixed-use developments are being built all throughout this region which will bring new residents looking for daily walking opportunities.

The tract also includes native forest habitats that provide opportunity for solitude and remoteness. Recreational opportunities extending down the 1.5 miles of forested floodplain to Blue House Canal for wildlife photography, particularly birds, plants, wildflowers, and amphibians. Existing trails on the property provide a way for communities to connect with the forest and with history. Historic rice plantations in Charleston County provide ecological and cultural opportunity for scientific study, interpretation for the public.

Ingleside Park encapsulates the Greenbelt Vision of transforming underutilized urban landscapes into greenspace for public benefit, development of on-road and off-road greenways and trails, ensuring liveability, and the hub-and-spoke model linking destinations together with greenspace corridors. (4.2) Ingleside Park is 440 undeveloped acres that is entitled as a planned development and facing significant encroaching development pressure. This property provides a linkage along the forested floodplain that extends through the development of the Weber/Ingleside in North Charleston. It uses ancient levees to become off-road greenways and trails that connect to future and existing development by adjacent landscaped roadways. The Weber/Ingleside development of residential neighborhoods, retails centers, and commercial/industrial space represent the economic growth and prosperity that the GAB intended the Greenbelt corridors to balance—an area for non-automobile transportation, outdoor recreation, protection of ecologically valuable landscapes. This landscape includes a larger corridor of protected space with Wannamaker County Park and Goose Creek Reservoir downstream.
