NEW Construction homes COMING SOON – 2021 We are seeing more and more new construction popping up with the shortage of housing inventory here in Charleston. Most of it is in bland cookie-cutter-type neighborhoods though. I’ve compiled a list of some of the most exciting and anticipated neighborhoods coming in 2021 to the Charleston area that are unique and exciting. From townhomes, estate-sized waterfront lots, and even a 55+, active adult community coming soon in Mount Pleasant’s Carolina Park neighborhood.

I am a full-time father, husband, and Charleston Realtor with ERA Wilder Realty. In my free time, I love spending time with my family, golfing, or listening to my record collection while introducing my kids to different kinds of music.

Charleston, the South Carolina port city founded in 1670, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses, particularly in the elegant French Quarter and Battery districts.

The Battery promenade and Waterfront Park both overlook Charleston Harbor, while Fort Sumter, a federal stronghold where the first shots of the Civil War rang out, lies across the water.

Charleston is known for cobblestone streets, beautiful architecture, and food! So we took ourselves on a DIY food tour of Charleston’s French Quarter to enjoy all of the scrumptious Southern delicacies we could fit in a day. Starting with coffee, of course, we had breakfast at the kinda’ pricey Harken Cafe. It’s weird to get sticker shock, being from L.A.! Then we headed to the Historic Charleston City Market to see what the local vendors had on offer.

There weren’t as many food options there as we were expecting, but we scored some benne wafers (along with a bit of cultural history with them!) and on a second walk-through we found Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit Company for some lunch. Next, we headed into the Fashion District for a local ice cream shop that hand-makes all of their ice cream on-premises!

After a stroll along the waterfront at Waterfront Park, down to the Battery, and with a brief break to do the Charleston like the flappers of the 1920s did, we headed back to the French Quarter for dinner. We chose Hyman’s Seafood for the rave reviews and the name. Watch the video to see why, then leave a comment for my cousin, Liz!

EV WILL BE FOURTH IN TRANSIT AUTHORITY FLEET

NORTH CHARLESTON — The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) will soon add a new electric bus to the fleet, after receiving a $608,000 award from the South Carolina Department of Insurance on Tuesday.  The award will be used to purchase a new Proterra ZX5 Zero Emission, Battery-Electric bus and will replace a 25-year-old bus that has served the transit agency well, logging more than 1 million miles during its time in service.

The Proterra ZX5 electric bus has a range of 329 miles on just a single charge and will be the fourth of its kind in the CARTA fleet. The latest funding award allows CARTA to continue its commitment toward fleet enhancement upgrades.

“This is another important step forward for our region, allowing us to continue our commitment to provide safe, reliable and energy-efficient transportation to our riders,” said CARTA Board of Directors Chairman Mike Seekings. “When I began as Chairman six years ago, CARTA had the oldest public transit fleet in the nation. That we have made this much progress in such a short amount of time is a testament to the leadership of BCDCOG Executive Director Ron Mitchum and his team, who continue to show that CARTA is a forward-thinking, nimble agency dedicated to making public transit equitable, accessible and reliable for all in our region.”

The $608,000 award is part of the second round of funding, totaling $24.54 million,  which stems from the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust, a fund set up as part of a settlement agreement between the automaker and the Environmental Protection Agency. As part of the award agreement, the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments will contribute 20% in matching funds.

In addition to adding new electric buses to the fleet, CARTA has worked on a number of additional initiatives this year including:

The CARTA OnDemand pilot program for seniors and Tel-A-Ride customers on the peninsula.

Doubled service on Route 31 Folly RoadMore than 150 installed or planned solar lighting rigs at unsheltered stops throughout the system. Dozens of solar-powered shelters installed since 2019.The Free Student Fare program, which allows K-12 students to ride for free.

Reduced senior rates now apply all day.

Partnering with DHEC to administer more than 1,000 free COVID-19 tests at two major hubs.

Please note that masks are required when utilizing any CARTA service.
