CARTA Launches OnDemand: First-in-the region program a step forward for transit
CARTA OnDemand launched earlier this month and provides door-to-door service for seniors and Tel-A-Ride customers traveling on the peninsula to and from the Medical District and/or WestEdge Publix. The innovative new partnership with Uber and UZURV will provide an enhanced level of service, making travel easier with direct, on-demand access to healthcare and groceries.

Further Details
- CARTA OnDemand will connect riders going to or from the Medical District, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Trips with both UZURV and Uber cost $4 each way.
- Rides can be scheduled with as little as one-hour notice.
- CARTA OnDemand is offered in addition to the existing Tel-A-Ride services.
- Riders requiring wheelchair accessibility are required to use UZURV.
Who Can Ride?
- Seniors: All seniors 55+ can register for CARTA OnDemand
- Tel-A-Ride Customers: All CARTA Tel-A-Ride customer are eligible to use the service in the Peninsula.

- Cost: $4 flat rate per trip, each direction.
- No Cash: Cash is not accepted for this service; a debit or credit card is required.
- Ride Hailing: Customers without smart phones can request a ride by calling the CARTA OnDemand call center powered by UZURV at (843)-592-3505. These trips will be scheduled with UZURV.
- Uber or UZURV: Seniors and Tel-A-Ride customers are able to use either Uber and/or UZURV. All Uber trips require a voucher to participate.
- Wheelchair Access: Riders requiring wheelchair accessibility must use UZURV.
- Monthly Riders: Seniors 55+ are allowed 20 trips per month to the Medical District and 10 trips to Publix. Tel-A-Ride customers have unlimited CARTA OnDemand access.

- Current CARTA Tel-A-Ride powered by Transdev operators and reservationist will not be able to answer questions regarding the program or schedule trips.
Parker’s Announces Landmark $20 Million Donation to Support Communities Throughout South Carolina and Georgia
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Parker’s – a nationally acclaimed convenience store company and food service leader that was named the 2020 Convenience Store Decisions Chain of the Year – recently donated a record $20 million to support charitable initiatives throughout the company’s corporate footprint.
The Parker’s Community Fund will support a range of charitable causes across the region. A new Community Impact Committee is being formed to make decisions about how to allocate the funds strategically in order to make the biggest impact.

Town of Mount Pleasant, SC Holds Ribbon-Cutting for Shem Creek Crab House

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (February 19, 2021) – Charleston Crab House Owner John Keener and Partner Chaz Wendel, together with Mount Pleasant Council Members Kathy Landing and Gray Santos, along with Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce President-Elect Jennifer Maxwell, Vice President Michael Cochran, and President Emeritus Chris Staubes, today attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Shem Creek Crab House, located at 508 Mill St, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
After opening in 1991, The Charleston Crab House has opened multiple locations across South Carolina, the latest being the Shem Creek Crab House in Mount Pleasant.
“We are very fortunate and excited to return to Mount Pleasant, this time being able to have a restaurant on the water at Shem Creek,” Keener said. He continued “we are looking forward to being a part of the Mount Pleasant community once again.”

Florence’s Lowcountry Kitchen Names Matthew Chaplin as New Executive Chef
CHARLESTON, SC- February 22, 2021- Folly Road’s newest addition, Florence’s Lowcountry Kitchen, located in the South Windermere Shopping Center, has named Matthew Chaplin as their new Executive Chef. A Charleston native who attended the Culinary Institute of Charleston, Chef Matthew’s extensive skill set expands the culinary spectrum. He looks forward to using his southern cuisine expertise to enhance Florence’s already mouthwatering menu of Lowcountry classics with a twist for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, ranging from Fried Chicken & Waffles to Shrimp & Grits, and Jambalaya.

“I was born to cook, having been raised in a home that celebrated both southern and Italian cuisine,” shared Chef Matthew. “I’ve got a soft spot for southern fare, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to join the Queen Street Hospitality Group team and do what I love every day.”
Chef Matthew’s background includes a wide range of culinary experiences ranging from dive bars to food trucks to fine dining, including studying organic cuisine in Asheville, working as the Protein Chef at Middleton Place, and most recently owning and operating Rocco’s Italian Sausage in West Ashley. After having to shut down due to Covid-19, Chef Matthew joined the Florence’s team as Sous Chef before taking over as Executive Chef in February 2021.
Florence’s Lowcountry Kitchen is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m.- 9:00 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Brunch is served on both Saturdays and Sundays.
