Charleston, S.C.- Folly Beach-based nonprofit, Warrior Surf Foundation (WSF), which provides Veterans, active duty service members, and their families with alternative surf therapy, yoga, and wellness coaching, is joining forces with Fight Oar Die– an all-American, all-military Veteran, four-man ocean rowing team that competes in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. A 3,000-mile race across the Atlantic Ocean from San Sebastian in Spain to the English Harbour, Antigua, and brings together teams from all walks of life united by the same objective: to take on the unique challenge of crossing an ocean in a rowing boat.

In an effort to “leverage their access to mental health services and resources for Warrior Surf Veterans, both organizations have agreed to provide programmatic support and reciprocal referral services to each other to benefit their respective Veterans. In preparation for the Challenge, WSF will introduce their Wellness Director Jordan Watkins to Fight Oar Die’s mental health resources. WSF aims to enhance the row team’s mental health before their competition, and Fight Oar Die will, in turn, leverage access to mental health services and resources for Warrior Surf Veterans.

“We are thrilled to collaborate and offer our services to another incredible Veteran-led organization,” shares Watkins. “We’ve seen significant changes in the Veterans who participate in our program, and are looking forward to helping to prepare the men of Fight Oar Die for their big race later this year.”

Both WSF and Fight Oar Die missions’ are in alignment to bring awareness to the challenges Veterans face during reintegration, and facilitate an alternative method for their growth and overall well-being.

“We firmly believe this new partnership will strengthen both of our abilities to enhance the lives of our nation’s Veterans and will provide our ocean rowing team with the tools necessary to successfully and, more importantly, health-consciously finish our race,” shares Fight Oar Die Board President Bryan Knight.

Charleston Based Striped Pig Distillery Releases Special Edition Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon

The 100% local corn, single-barrel bourbon, distilled by Striped Pig master distiller Johnny Pieper, has been aged for over 6 years in the distillery’s bonded warehouse. According to official tasting notes from the distillery, the drink gives off an aroma of maple syrup, opening into brown sugar, caramel, and vanilla on the tongue, leading into notes of molasses, raisin, pepper, spice, and licorice, before finishing with hints of leather and earthy tones.

This year’s limited release marks a first for Striped Pig and its surrounding area. The concept of bottled-in-bond has been around for over a century, originating with the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 to ensure what’s described as the integrity of whiskey. Now its high standards serve to many as an indicator of transparency, quality, and authenticity. Every barrel ages differently depending on where and how it is stored, the aging process, as well as on the composition of the cask.

Most of it is in bland cookie-cutter-type neighborhoods though. I’ve compiled a list of some of the most exciting and anticipated neighborhoods coming in 2021 to the Charleston area that are unique and exciting. From townhomes, estate-sized waterfront lots, and even a 55+, active adult community coming soon in Mount Pleasant’s Carolina Park neighborhood.

I am a full-time father, husband, and Charleston Realtor with ERA Wilder Realty. In my free time, I love spending time with my family, golfing, or listening to my record collection while introducing my kids to different kinds of music.
