On this Memorial Day, we gather as a community to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. It is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance—a time to pay tribute to the selfless heroes who have defended the values we hold dear.

Charleston, a city steeped in history and tradition, has its own unique connection to the sacrifices made by our servicemen and servicewomen. From the American Revolution to the Civil War and beyond, this city has witnessed the valor and resilience of those who have answered the call of duty.

Today, we honor the memory of the fallen soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who have given their lives in service to our nation. We remember their courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms. They have left an indelible mark on our community and their legacy lives on in the hearts of their loved ones and all of us who benefit from their sacrifice.

Memorial Day also serves as a reminder of the profound gratitude we owe to our active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their families. They embody the spirit of service, embodying the values of honor, integrity, and selflessness. We must recognize their sacrifices not just on this day but every day, by providing them with the support, care, and respect they deserve.

Del Webb Charleston at Nexton Expanding

Del Webb Charleston at Nexton is growing with 420 additional new homes planned and a lineup of added amenities on tap for active adults, including a bar and grill with poolside service, more pickleball courts and a grand multi-use gymnasium for concerts, large resident events and indoor sporting activities.

One of PulteGroup’s top selling communities, Del Webb Charleston at Nexton will grow from its approximately 350 acres to more than 515 acres to accommodate the new amenities and households, which are expected to reach about 1,433 homes upon buildout.

Located 25 miles northwest of downtown Charleston, residents of the 55+ gated community should begin seeing the expansion coming out of the ground in late 2024 with completion expected the following year.

“We are excited to broaden our new home presence within sought-after Nexton where it’s already a vacation year-round,” said General Sales Manager Ann Taylor. “These new amenities are based upon feedback from our active adult residents who told us what would elevate their quality of life and experience outside the home even more.”

The new amenities will sit alongside the 25,000 square-foot Lifestyle Center gathering hub. Residents already enjoy a heated indoor pool and spa, outdoor pool, pickleball and tennis courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center and exercise studio, and space for clubs and hobby groups. A full-time Lifestyle Director oversees activities.

Planned amenities include:
• An expansive gymnasium designed for club functions and large-scale lifestyle events, with a stage for theater and live music concerts. The gym also will be used for Indoor sports activities like pickleball, tennis, basketball and volleyball.

• An onside bar and grill within a newly designed covered pool deck where residents can relax with a beverage and a bite to eat, taking the day or night off from cooking and enjoying time with neighbors poolside. The restaurant also will be a welcome addition for social gatherings.

• Six additional pickleball courts — requested by residents as one of the most sought-after outdoor activities. Located next to the four existing courts, the larger venue can be used for club and tournament play.

Featuring one-level living with optional second floors, Del Webb Charleston at Nexton homebuyers can choose between 10 floorplans from two to four bedrooms and up to five-and-a-half baths. Ranging in size from about 1,300 square feet to over 2,700 square feet, with optional three-car garages for an extra vehicle, golf cart or hobby work area, prices start in the upper $300,000s.
