A new all-day French-inspired restaurant is preparing to welcome diners on one of Charleston’s most historic streets.
Broad Street is about to get a new culinary destination.
Quarter French, an upcoming restaurant at 40 Broad Street, is taking shape inside a historic circa-1806 building in Charleston’s French Quarter. The concept comes from Charleston natives Mike and Kathleen Shuler, owners of Blind Tiger Pub, and their business partner and sommelier Nathan Wheeler.
Rather than being a strictly traditional French restaurant, Quarter French is envisioned as an approachable neighborhood bistro with French influence throughout the day—from breakfast and coffee to lunch, cocktails and dinner.
The historic building, formerly home to Brown Dog Deli, is being carefully restored while incorporating new spaces designed for lingering. Plans include indoor and outdoor seating and a four-season courtyard with a retractable roof.
Food is expected to center on French-inspired bistro fare made with locally sourced ingredients, while Wheeler’s wine expertise will play a significant role in the beverage program. A dedicated wine cellar is also planned.
The project was initially expected to open in spring 2026, and work continues as Quarter French moves toward its long-awaited debut.
For Charleston, where French influence is woven into the architecture, history and identity of the French Quarter, the arrival of Quarter French feels particularly fitting.
Soon, Broad Street may have a new place to begin the morning with coffee, linger over lunch, raise a glass of wine in the courtyard—or settle in for dinner and let the evening unfold.
