$280 million investment will create more than 700 new jobs

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Isuzu North America Corporation (Isuzu), a supplier of commercial vehicles, today announced it has selected Greenville County to establish the company’s new production base in the United States. The company’s $280 million investment will create more than 700 new jobs.

A subsidiary of Isuzu Motors Limited, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, Isuzu supplies commercial vehicles for the United States and Canadian markets. Isuzu trucks entered the North American truck market in 1984, and the company sold 44,000 units in the last fiscal year, its highest total ever.

Isuzu has purchased a 1 million-square-foot facility, on over 200 acres of land on Augusta Road in Greenville County, that it is converting into a state-of-the-art assembly plant to expand Isuzu’s vehicle supply capabilities in North America. The new plant will include a variable-model, variable-volume production line that produces both internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles. When completed, the plant will produce the company’s N-Series Gas, N-Series Electric and F-Series Diesel trucks, and will have a production capacity of 50,000 units annually.

Operations are expected to begin in 2027. In the coming months, Isuzu will provide more details about job opportunities, including how interested applicants can apply.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded a $7 million Closing Fund grant to Greenville County to assist with the costs of site preparation and building construction.

QUOTES

“Isuzu carefully considered numerous factors when deciding where to locate its new production base. We found everything that we wanted and more in the State of South Carolina and Greenville County: a supportive business environment, excellent access to transportation, proximity to the Port of Charleston, an excellent labor pool, a skilled workforce being produced by nearby colleges, and the benefits of joining a large and growing automotive production base. We look forward to starting up our operations and making a positive contribution to the state and the local community.” -Isuzu North America Corporation President Noboru Murakami

“Isuzu’s decision to establish operations and create more than 700 new jobs in Greenville County reinforces South Carolina as a top destination for the automotive industry. We celebrate this significant investment and all that it will mean for our people, and we look forward to witnessing the transformative impact this announcement will have in the years ahead.” -Gov. Henry McMaster

“Once again, South Carolina’s reputation as an automotive powerhouse is bringing increased opportunities to our borders. Isuzu’s new Greenville County operation will make an incredible impact in the Upstate region and throughout the state. We welcome Isuzu to our business community and look forward to the company launching its legacy here.” -Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III

“SC Ports is proud to welcome Isuzu to Greenville County. Isuzu’s investment in the Upstate speaks to the success of Inland Port Greer, which offers customers direct connectivity to our productive and capable marine terminals. SC Ports’ recent expansion of Inland Port Greer will further enhance cargo and rail capabilities to support our customers’ needs, and continue to strengthen the supply chain in South Carolina and beyond.” -SC Ports President and CEO Barbara Melvin

“Isuzu’s decision to bring its operations to Greenville County marks an exciting new chapter for our community. This investment will generate quality jobs, strengthen our automotive sector, and showcase the advantages Greenville County offers to businesses looking for a strategic location and a highly capable workforce. We’re honored to welcome Isuzu to our growing network of world-class companies and look forward to a prosperous partnership in the years ahead.” -Greenville County Council Chairman Benton Blount

Southern roots meet innovative social drinking in Rebel Rabbit’s newest Lab Rabbit release.

GREENVILLE, S.C., Oct. 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Rebel Rabbit, the Greenville-based pioneer in THC-infused beverages, today announced the launch of Tea-HC, its first-ever freshly brewed organic tea with a squeeze of lemon. This new release blends authentic southern sweet tea tradition with a refreshing, health-conscious twist — and a Rebel Rabbit edge.

Rebel Rabbit
Rebel Rabbit

Tea-HC is crafted with organic Nilgiri black tea from the mountains of Southern India, known for its strong cup, fragrant bouquet, and hazel color. By lowering the sugar content from traditional recipes and adding fresh lemon juice, Rebel Rabbit has created a lighter, more refreshing version of a southern staple — one that balances tradition with modern wellness trends.

Innovation Rooted in the South
The idea for Tea-HC was inspired by the runaway success of Rebel Rabbit’s Lab Rabbit Blackberry Lemonade with caffeine, which quickly became a fan favorite. Building on that momentum, Rebel Rabbit leaned into its South Carolina roots and began experimenting with sweet tea — a drink synonymous with southern culture.

Pierce Wylie, Founder & CEO of Rebel Rabbit, said:

“Our customers loved the Lab Rabbit Blackberry Lemonade with caffeine, so we knew we had to keep exploring new caffeinated options. Being from South Carolina, sweet tea was the natural next step. Tea-HC is our fresh-brewed, organic version of a southern staple — with a squeeze of lemon and an infusion of THC. Now we want to hear from our community: try it, give us your feedback, and help us decide if this becomes a permanent part of the Rebel Rabbit lineup.”

The Lab Rabbit Program
Tea-HC launches as part of Rebel Rabbit’s Lab Rabbit Innovation Program, a platform where the brand experiments with new flavors, formats, and functional infusions. Lab Rabbit SKUs are released in limited batches exclusively online, inviting customers to provide feedback that helps shape whether products become permanent additions to the lineup.

Why Tea-HC Stands Out

  • Freshly brewed organic Nilgiri black tea
  • Balanced sweetness — lower sugar than traditional southern sweet tea
  • Fresh lemon juice for tartness & balance
  • Natural caffeine from tea leaves paired with THC infusion for a unique, uplifting experience
  • Exclusive Lab Rabbit drops available only at drinkrebelrabbit.com

Call to Action
Tea-HC is available now for purchase exclusively at drinkrebelrabbit.com through the Lab Rabbit Program. Customers are encouraged to order, taste, and share their feedback to help shape the future of this innovative SKU.

Charleston, S.C. (September 30, 2025) – SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service site design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas today announced the retirement of one of its founders, Stuart Whiteside, PE, effective November 1, 2025. The vision Whiteside established more than four decades ago remains at the heart of SW+, and continues to shape today’s leadership team. Whiteside will continue to support the firm in a new part-time role as a trusted advisor on the board of directors and leadership team, offering mentorship and guidance on special projects and initiatives.

Whiteside co-founded SeamonWhiteside along with Kenny Seamon 40 years ago and has been instrumental in shaping the company’s trajectory and culture of care. Under his leadership, SW+ helped shape the growth of Mount Pleasant with projects including I’On Community and Mount Pleasant Town Centre, then expanded across the Carolinas, opening new offices, and adding new service sectors. “Forty years ago my dad and Stuart created something truly special, blending civil engineering with landscape architecture within a company that culturally reflected their personalities and high level of care,” said Russ Seamon, president of SeamonWhiteside. “Stuart has been mentoring the next level of leadership, including myself, and passing the torch in a way that embraces that culture while continuing to elevate the site design experience.”

In recent years, Whiteside worked with the leadership team to ensure a smooth transition plan, establishing a formal board of directors and strengthening leadership at every level. His continued role as advisor reflects both his long-standing influence and the firm’s commitment to remaining innovative and community-focused.

Kenny and Stuart – 1991

Looking ahead, SW+ plans to honor Whiteside’s legacy by dedicating conference rooms to its founders and hosting a celebration in his honor. While stepping back from day-to-day responsibilities, Whiteside looks forward to spending more time traveling with his wife Francie, enjoying his grandchildren, and playing more golf.

SeamonWhiteside remains poised for growth with a strong leadership team, a culture of innovation, and a dedication to serving the Carolinas through exceptional site design and community-driven philanthropy initiatives such as Green Square.

“Stuart’s legacy is enduring,” said Seamon. “He built a company that’s not only successful but also positioned to thrive for decades to come. I speak for all employees of SeamonWhiteside when I say that we are forever grateful for what Stuart has done in co-founding this company and positioning it for future success as an organization that continues to prioritize caring for its people, its clients, and the communities it serves.”

Knowledge Sharing from My Three Sons Heating & Air (Charleston, SC) – Striking A Balance: Get To Know Your Air Filters For Your HVAC System In The Lowcountry

My Three Sons Heating & Air, Charleston’s locally family owned HVAC experts and neighborhood partners have shared a new article for home owners and renters: “Striking A Balance: Get To Know Your Air Filters For Your HVAC System In The Lowcountry”.

It’s that time of year when fall starts to slowly creep into the Lowcountry.  For many area families that means all the fun fall activities one would expect. From fall local sports activities to pumpkin patches to Halloween events, there’s no shortage of things to do in the greater Charleston area this time of year.

It’s also the time of year, however, when many families are thinking about getting their HVAC system replaced and lining up their system maintenance as the seasons transition.

On the maintenance side, there are many things HVAC companies typically include – among those can be a quick look at your air filters.

Air filters – in most cases – are something the homeowner can manage themselves, with most modern units making a change quite simple.  That said, many Lowcountry homeowners may simply swap out what they have with something they’ve always used, without looking at the different options they have – or fully understanding the air filter’s role in their HVAC system operation.  To help you out, below is a very brief, but thorough rundown for you to give you a bit more insight into this small – but important – piece of HVAC equipment.

What Is An Air Filter?

Air filters, as the name suggests, is a piece of equipment that filters air that passes through it to remove small particles that may be in the air.  While we’re speaking from the perspective of the HVAC world, air filters have many, many different applications.  You’ve most likely heard the word “air filter” used by your local car mechanic as they can be used to filter out particles that may end up damaging the engine.

There are many other applications, but here the idea is simple – HVAC air filters are placed within the system to remove small particles like dust, pollen, small fibers and other particulates from your home’s conditioned air.

Air Filter Types

Not all air filters are built the same – they come in a variety of types.

Among these are fiberglass (the most affordable), pleated (usually made of cotton or polyester), washable (allowing you to use the same filter for a period of time) and finally electrostatic (which uses static electricity to “pull” and “attract” particulates that pass through the filter).  Other, more advanced filters include carbon filters (more common for removing odors) and UV filters (which use ultraviolet light to kill bacteria in the air).  The most common type of air filter you’ll run into are either the fiberglass or pleated – for reasons you’ll understand after reading below.

MERV ratings – short for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value – is a scale designed to measure the effectiveness of air filters at removing particulates in the air.  MERV values range from 1 to 16, with 16 being the highest.  The higher the MERV rating, the more effective it is at removing a greater percentage of particulates, each time air passes through the filter.  While other air filter rating exist, MERV is the most commonly used rating system you’ll see in the HVAC world.

Striking A Balance Between Effectiveness & System Efficiency

We touched on it above, but a balance has to be made when it comes to your choice of air filter.  As MERV ratings increase, the flow of air tends to be restricted to make sure it can capture the finer particulates that flow through it.  This restriction means your HVAC system might have to work a bit harder to push air through your system – which ultimately will force your system to work a bit harder than it should, over time.

This “harder operation” over time can reduce the lifespan of your system, in some cases.  This is why you’ll see the lighter, lower MERV rating air filters more often — they typically are better suited to keeping your system performing at peak efficiency.  It doesn’t mean that you can’t opt for higher MERV ratings – it just means you have to be a bit careful with your selection, if you do (to make sure your system can handle the added load).

When In Doubt, Contact Your Local HVAC Contractor

As always, if you’re concerned about your home’s indoor air quality and associated air filter selections, you can always reach out to your Lowcountry local HVAC company.  Especially in the case where you might want an air filter with a bit higher MERV rating, an AC company can give you more insight into your specific, customized indoor air quality needs.  And, because they only work locally, they can tell you exactly what’s working best – and what’s not working – for other Lowcountry families in your area.

Air filters seem like an everyday piece of equipment, but as you can see above, there’s a lot more to air filtration than meets the eye.

FEMA Supporting Southeastern States Ahead of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine

WASHINGTON, D.C — As South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency ahead of potential impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, FEMA, at the direction of President Trump and in coordination with the Secretary of Homeland Security, is postured and ready to support states along the Southeast coast, as needed.

While states and local partners lead preparedness efforts in their communities, FEMA is actively engaged with Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia to assist with needs that may overwhelm their capabilities. The storm could bring storm surge, heavy rainfall and flooding to portions of the Southeast, and residents should follow instructions from their local emergency management officials.

FEMA’s National Response Coordination Center in Washington, D.C. and the Regional Response Coordination Centers in Atlanta and Philadelphia are activated to help coordinate any requests for federal assistance and resources.

More than 100 FEMA staff are deployed to support state response actions, including Incident Management Assessment Teams and Federal Coordinating Officers. Urban Search and Rescue task forces are also pre-prepositioning to assist if requested, and additional personnel are ready to deploy.

FEMA’s state liaisons are embedded with state emergency operations from Florida to North Carolina, maintaining communication with state emergency management officials. To alleviate potential supply chain disruptions, FEMA is engaging with key transportation and fuel industry partners to ensure the flow of critical resources, if needed.

Residents should identify their risks, make a plan and stay informed to prepare for the storm. Here are some things to do now:

• Stay informed: Sign up for local weather alerts.

• Know your evacuation zone: Follow instructions from local officials about evacuation orders.

• Make a plan: Know where you will go to shelter and practice how you will communicate with family and friends after a disaster.

• Get supplies: Have enough food, water and essential items to last for several days.

FEMA continues to monitor the development of the storm and is coordinating closely with state and local officials to ensure readiness for potential impacts.
