How Culinary Scholars Are Shaping the Future of the 2026 Charleston Wine + Food Festival

As the Charleston Wine + Food Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary from March 4–8, 2026, one of its most impactful initiatives remains the Culinary Scholars Program — a cornerstone effort that connects education, career development, and community engagement in Charleston’s vibrant food scene.

In 2026, the festival’s Culinary Scholars continue to play a central role by gaining hands-on experience across festival events and programs. These students — drawn from local high schools, the College of Charleston, the Culinary Institute of Charleston, and other partnering institutions — dive into real-world training that goes well beyond the classroom.

• Classroom learning and certifications, such as ProStart, that prepare students for culinary careers.
• Mentorship opportunities with top local chefs and hospitality professionals.
• Paid externships and career experiences during festival events that bolster resumes and job readiness.

During the 2026 festival — now marking two decades of celebrating Charleston’s food culture — Culinary Scholars are actively engaged in a variety of signature programming, including:

• Culinary Village (March 6–8): Scholars assist with demonstrations, engage with guests, and gain valuable service and presentation skills.  
• Hands-on Experiences: From working alongside chefs in demonstrations to supporting event logistics and hospitality efforts, students are immersed in every layer of festival execution.  
• Scholarship and Career Pathways: Scholarships such as the Charleston Wine + Food Excellence Scholarship continue to support collegiate students pursuing degrees in hospitality and related fields, ensuring academic and professional growth.  

Impact Beyond the Festival Week

Charleston Wine + Food’s focus on workforce development goes far beyond the five days of events in March. The organization’s programs — including the Culinary Scholars initiative — address long-term industry workforce needs by preparing young talent for careers in culinary arts, hospitality management, food media, and event planning.
