A Day in the Life: 24 Hours of Folly Beach Vibrancy

By Mark A Leon

Folly Beach pulses with laid-back energy, offering visitors a perfect blend of local charm and coastal relaxation. Start your morning at Lost Dog Cafe, fueling up with hearty breakfast before exploring the island’s gems.

Morning Essentials

Coffee! Coffee! Coffee! We all have our inner Lorelei Gilmore and yearn for that first cup of java in order to function somewhat properly. Folly Beach offers Center Street Coffee and Dead Low as two excellent options. For those few fans of Turkish Coffee, like ourselves, Center Street is one of the few places in the Lowcountry that has that offering.

Swing by Bert’s Market, the 24/7 (even during a hurricane) island hub where locals and visitors converge. Open around the clock, this market embodies the island’s spirit with its motto “We may doze but we never close”. Grab coffee, local produce, and beach essentials while soaking in the community atmosphere.

Midday Adventures

Head to McKevlin’s Surf Shop to rent a surfboard and catch waves at Charleston’s premier surf spot. After riding the breaks, cool down at Revelry Brewing, a hidden beachside oasis with a relaxed courtyard and earthy decor. Enjoy craft beers and seltzer cocktails while mingling with a diverse crowd.

Evening Highlights

As night falls, Planet Follywood comes alive with live music and dive bar charm. Local musicians and friendly bartenders create an authentic “Cheers-like” atmosphere. Or if a little more rock or alternative is your style, The Bounty Bar has you covered on the late night music scene (Check out the link for the website and music schedule).

Later, savor globally inspired dishes at Jack of Cups, a local favorite known for creative cuisine. With a new menu each season, Jack of Cups keeps us on our toes with their always anticipated inventive menus.

The perfect Folly Beach day captures the essence of this vibrant coastal community – relaxed, welcoming, and endlessly entertaining.
