[CHARLESTON COUNTY] – It’s time for man’s best friend to make a splash and start doggy paddling! After waterpark season ends, Charleston County Parks welcomes hounds and pooches to return to enjoy the dog days of summer. This year, the event will be offered all three waterparks! Splash Island Waterpark at Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park and Splash Zone Waterpark at James Island County Park will host the event on Saturday, Sept. 10; and it will be held at Whirlin’ Waters Adventure Waterpark at North Charleston Wannamaker County Park on Sunday, Sept. 11.

This is the first year that Charleston County Parkswill host their annual Dog Day Afternoon at all three waterpark locations. Dogs and their owners can register to attend one of two timed sessions at each waterpark. The sessions will be 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 3 p.m.  Each session will have a limited capacity, so advance registration is encouraged.

Registration is now open for all sessions of Dog Day Afternoon. Registration fees for each session are $15 per dog in advance, and $20 per dog at the waterpark gate if available. Owners are free with their pets. Palmetto Islands and James Island County Park admission fees will be included with purchase.

Dogs must be up to date on all necessary vaccinations to enter the event. While in the park and for the safety of all guests, owners are responsible to keep their dogs at hand and under control at all times. To maximize the fun and space for the pups, swimming is open for dogs only and owners should not go past knee depth in the water. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at park concession stands for the humans, and fresh water will be available for the dogs. Female dogs in heat and puppies under six months old are not allowed. For other rules and tips to make Dog Day Afternoon the best experience possible, please visit CharlestonCountyParks.com.
