Introduction to the Stono Rebellion Landscape

Saturday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Across the three events, attendees will learn about the Stono Rebellion through public presentations, interacting with archaeological artifacts, and experiencing the landscape through a walking tour of Caw Caw and a driving tour of the major sites of the rebellion. In this kick-off event, we begin in the Caw Caw classroom with a presentation of the historical events of Stono Rebellion by Joshua Parks and Eric Grant. Jon Marcoux will then discuss how archaeology can help us learn about the events and lives of the people who were involved in the rebellion, inviting attendees to explore archaeological artifacts as a tangible link to the past. We will then visit the nearby Stono Rebellion National Historic Landmark site and discuss the impacts of modern development on the surrounding historic landscape.
