Attorney-turned-winemaker Lindsey Williams, who launched Davidson Wine Co. in 2018 in the suburbs of Charlotte, is now bringing her globally-sourced grapes from the best wine-making regions of the world to the Holy City, a city she deeply loves and admires.

Lowcountry authors publish the first in an inspiring series of books “Run Like a Girl”

About the Run Like a Girl Book Series

The book is called ‘Turtle’ and is the first in a series called Run Like A Girl. A fictional middle grade book about living and running in the Lowcountry, it is truely a testament to Coach Tami Dennis and the amazing running program she has created with the Mount Pleasant Track Club.

It also references the OV frequently as the main character lives in a fictional version of it called North Point.

There is a chapter in it called ‘Turtle ‘where the main character goes on Turtle Patrol on S.I. My daughter Julia is a seventh grader at Laing and she runs for MPTC and is a varsity XC runner for Lucy Beckham HS as well.

This book is all about inspiring girls to take up a sport and stay in it. Profits will be used to set up scholarships for girls in need of booster fees, etc. 

We are selling books at the OV 5K next weekend and at Brown Fox on Thursday morning, November 18, 2021.

We are please to announce that StorageCafe has named Mount Pleasant the 7th best destination for snowbirds. How is how the results were measured and what put our Mount Pleasant in the top 10.

  • Mount Pleasant has access to about 8 miles of beaches plus plenty of park space. Typically for the area, the average October-March temperature here is a very acceptable 58 °F.
  • There are five golf courses, and a high number of health centers per 1,000 of the population, no less than 4.7. The town also ranks high for safety.
  • The median rent and house price figures are currently $1,827 and $591,168, and the internet speed is a zoombird-friendly 481 MBps.
  • South Carolina has three top-100 snowbird destinations.

Criteria

To find the best cold-season hideaways, we looked at almost 1,000 places around the US and evaluated eleven factors, including:

  • Temperatures from October to March (obtained from Weather Source)
  • Housing for snowbirds: Availability for seasonal use, and median cost to rent and to purchase as a second home
  • The incidence of crime per capita in each destination
  • The length of beach found beginning no more than 10 miles from a destination
  • The amount of park space per capita and the number of golf courses nearby
  • Local internet speeds, as many snowbirds will be zoombirds or may simply want to blog a lot — the average over all the places we considered is 336 MBps
  • The number of health care and social assistance establishments per 1,000 of the local population — the average over all the places we considered is 3.2
  • The cost of renting a self storage unit — snowbirds visiting the same destination every year, and even second-home owners, can ease their luggage burden by keeping golf clubs, surfboards or seasonal clothes in a unit

Lowcountry Autism Foundation is seeking volunteers

We are searching for Volunteers!

Our next parents night is Nov.12th. This night gives parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder a 3 hour break, where they may go out on a much needed date or spend quality time with the other siblings. We are searching for volunteers who love working with children with autism.

We need dedicated and committed volunteers apart of this program. We will be holding this program once a month on Fridays from 5-8p. We will be able to take 12-16 children each time, based on the amount of volunteers we have committed each month.
