The Goatery at Kiawah River: Where sustainable farming, community and wellness come together

By Mark A Leon

Nestled in the lush landscape of Johns Island, The Goatery at Kiawah River is a heartwarming sanctuary where sustainable farming meets community connection. Founded by passionate farmers Danny Sillvant and Missy Farkouh, this artisan goat dairy is home to over 90 adorable goats of Nubian, Alpine, and Lamancha breeds.

A Farm with a Mission

The Goatery is more than just a dairy—it’s a sanctuary dedicated to humane farming practices. Danny and Missy provide top-quality goat milk and cheese to notable Charleston restaurants like Husk and Charleston Grill, while creating a nurturing environment for their goat herd.

Visitors can enjoy unique engaging community experiences like:

  • Goat yoga classes led by a certified instructor
  • Guided farm tours
  • Two-day farm school for children
  • A brand-new state-of-the-art creamery that produces 100 gallons of raw milk every few days
  • Parties and special events (Birthdays, Celebrations, Kids Events)

The farm even hosts an annual G.O.A.T. 5K race, where participants run trails surrounded by baby goats and enjoy farm-fresh prizes.

With their commitment to sustainability and community engagement, The Goatery at Kiawah River is truly a special place that celebrates the connection between humans, animals, and agriculture.
