Charleston, South Carolina, is a popular filming location for movies and TV shows due to its historic architecture, scenic landscapes, and charming Southern atmosphere. Here are some movies that were filmed in Charleston:

  1. The Notebook (2004) – This romantic drama starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams was partially filmed in Charleston. Several iconic scenes were shot in the city, including the famous “boat scene” on the Ashley River.
  2. The Patriot (2000) – This historical epic starring Mel Gibson was filmed in various locations throughout South Carolina, including Charleston. The city’s historic district was used as a stand-in for colonial-era Charleston.
  3. The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) – This golf-themed movie starring Will Smith and Matt Damon was filmed in Charleston and on Kiawah Island. Many of the golf scenes were shot at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
  4. Dear John (2010) – This romantic drama starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried was set and filmed in Charleston. Many of the movie’s scenes were shot in the city’s historic district, including the College of Charleston campus and Waterfront Park.

Cold Mountain (2003) – This drama starring Nicole Kidman and Jude law included these Charleston scenes: The town square scene where Inman speaks to the blind man was shot at the College of Charleston in downtown CharlestonCypress Gardens in Berkeley County near Moncks Corner was also used as a set.
  8. Die Hard with A Vengeance (1995) – The old Grace Memorial Bridge over the Cooper River was used as the set for the scene where John McClane and Zeus jump onto the container ship. The subway station crash scenes were shot on a stage built at the former General Dynamics plant in the Bushy Park area of North Charleston.
  9. The New Daughter (2009) – This horror movie starring Kevin Costner was filmed in various locations throughout South Carolina, including Charleston. Many of the movie’s scenes were shot in the city’s historic district and at the College of Charleston.
  10. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995) – This comedy starring Jim Carrey was partially filmed at Botany Bay on Edisto Island and at Cherokee Plantation near Green Pond.

    You forgot Rich in Love with Albert Finney! First a wonderful book by local author, Josephine Humphreys. Story set in Mt. Pleasant and filmed there.

    One of my favorite movies was filmed entirely in the Charleston area. Don’t Tell Her It’s Me which was released a second time as The Boyfriend School. Great movie!

      I had forgotten that one! I bartended at the time and one of the guys that came in played the biker in the scene shelley long tried to ride a harley. It was funny as hell.

    I would not think twice on the above comments. There will always be little people with little lives that want to put others down to finally feel important bc their existence in life is insignificant.

    Reap the Wild Wind filmed in 1942 about the coast steamship business before the late unpleasantness had several scenes shot in Charleston. One court scene had a spectacular view of St. Michael’s steeple out the window, a real chamber of commerce shot but Would War II interrupted the blooming tourism business.

      The street on the right side of St. Philips can be seen in that movie as well. Reap the wild wind is one of my favorites!

    Are leaders are allowing the beauty of this area to be lost In lieu of money they are over building the roads and infrastructure is not able to support all the people that they’re trying to squeeze in.Very sad about Paradise lost.

    The TNT movie “The Huntley” was filmed entirely in Charleston mostly at the former Naval Base. It started Donald Sutherland and Armand Asante.I and several of my friends were extras in the movie filmed in 1998.

    Thin Ice, 1981 with Kate Jackson, was filmed entirely in Charleston. I was in that movie and at the time it was a big deal.
