By Mark A. Leon

The Rickhouse on James Island, a 14,000-square-foot venue at 1734 Signal Point Road, has become a hub of activity since its opening in late 2024. Owned by Cannon Distillery in partnership with Virgil Kaine Lowcountry Whiskey, this space combines a distillery, retail shop, tasting room, and a 7,500-square-foot event space.

The Rickhouse offers not only craft spirits like whiskey and gin but also serves as a unique venue for community events and private celebrations. The full service kitchen and bar is open to the public for lunch and dinner Wednesdays – Saturday from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM with food prepared by the team behind Roti Rolls.

The owners, Kris Kincaid of Cannon Distillery and David Szlam of Virgil Kaine, bring years of experience in Charleston’s hospitality scene.

Their collaboration focuses on creating high-quality spirits with a culinary twist, reflecting their shared passion for innovation and customer experience. This partnership has also enabled them to expand their reach into South Carolina and Georgia markets.

The Rickhouse has hosted diverse events, from grand openings featuring live music to seasonal attractions like “Nightmare at The Rickhouse,” a haunted house experience. Its full catering services and creative cocktails make it an ideal spot for weddings, corporate events, and community gatherings.
