Uncork Charleston to Close Upper King Street Wine Bar This Saturday, October 17

Owner plans to relocate to a smaller, more neighborhood-focused space

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Uncork Charleston, the wine bar at 476 King St., will close its doors on Saturday, Oct. 17, owner and operator Kathryn announced this week.

Kathryn shared the news in a message to customers on social media, thanking Upper King Street for welcoming her “with open arms.” She said she was honored to have shared her wine list with the community and to have made “so many incredible memories” at the bar, which opened in 2018.

She said the business had drifted from her original vision. “Somewhere along the way, the business has gotten so far away from my dream of a chill neighborhood wine bar,” she wrote. While she has loved the late nights and the fun that came with them, she said it was time to return to what she set out to create.

Uncork is not closing for good. Kathryn said she plans to find a new space and bring the bar “back to its roots,” ideally somewhere she can close by 10 p.m. and be home by 11. She stressed there is no timeline. “I’m in no rush,” she wrote, saying she wants to take time to reset and recharge and be sure the next location is the right one. She signed off with “Stay tuned for Chapter 2.”

She invited patrons to stop in before Saturday to share a glass and be served “one more time on Upper King.” The last day of service is Saturday, Oct. 17.

Kathryn also asked customers to keep supporting small, independently owned businesses, especially owner-operated ones. “It means more than you know,” she wrote.
