The Conservation League, HCF and PSC remain steadfast in their shared vision for the redevelopment of Union Pier:
- Union Pier must be resilient and embrace both the natural and historic features of the site.
- Union Pier must be of appropriate size, scale and character to serve as an extension of our historic city.
- Union Pier must provide real benefits to all people of Charleston, ranging from ample public green space to substantial affordable housing.

Next steps
Finally, after many months of public meetings, presentations and community input, the South Carolina Ports Authority announced that they were going to take the planning process in an alternative direction. The Union Pier Terminal Redevelopment planning process will now be led by the City of Charleston and the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Center for Livable Communities at the College of Charleston and important stakeholders, including the City of Charleston, the SC Ports Authority, Charleston residents and advocacy organizations will now be engaged directly in the planning process in an effort to once again create a plan for the site.
