MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – (Wednesday, March 5, 2025) Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis announced the arrest of a woman who has been charged after detectives investigated a body that was discovered in a Ladson home on Tuesday. Sara Mae Williams, 63-years-old of Ladson, has been charged with Destruction, Desecration or Removal of Human Remains.

On Tuesday, just before 5 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Judy Hill Drive in the Ladson area of Berkeley County. A concerned citizen advised Berkeley County dispatch that they were cleaning a trailer and they believed they located a body that was wrapped inside of a bag. Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed that a body was located.

“Our detectives worked relentlessly around the clock to identify the person of interest in this case. Their swift actions led to the identification of a suspect, and within just four hours, deputies were able to pinpoint the suspect’s location,โ€ Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis stated. โ€œThis is a testament to the professionalism and commitment of our team to ensure justice is served.”

The Berkeley County Coronerโ€™s Office will identify the deceased. The cause of death at this time is undetermined and is pending an autopsy.

The Berkeley County Sheriffโ€™s Office continues to investigate.
