Returning to the Charleston area after three sold-out performances honoring Black History Month, this free performance presented by the City of North Charleston will showcase a Baroque giant and 20th century Black composers. Lead violinists Anyango Yarbo-Davenport and Romuald Grimbert-Barré will be joined by the Festival’s chamber ensemble to perform J.S. Bach’s Double Violin Concerto and his Brandenburg Concertos as well as William Grant Still’s “Mother & Child,” George Walker’s “Lyric,” and Coleridge Taylor Perkinson’s “Cavalry” in an intimate chamber music setting.
“Springtime in North Charleston is a highlight of the Colour of Music Festival’s programming and we are so honored to return and showcase classical gems by Black composers whose works deserve the spotlight alongside the giants of the Baroque era,” said Lee Pringle, Colour of Music Festival Founder and Artistic Director.
“The City of North Charleston is very excited to welcome back our third Colour of Music performance as part of our annual North Charleston Arts Fest. Presenting this spotlight performance in such an intimate setting is a wonderful way for the North Charleston Arts Fest and the Colour of Music Festival fans to enjoy classical music in a region that appreciates chamber music in particular!” says Kyle Lahm, North Charleston Cultural Arts Director.
