NY PIZZA MEETS THE LOWCOUNTRY

Bringing classic New York pies to the Charleston area, Woodhaven Pizza is set to open its doors in late December in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Woodhaven will join two existing concepts under the BENE Hospitality Group umbrella.

BENE Hospitality Founders Ty and Karen Mennuti-Raju are thrilled to bring their third concept, Woodhaven Pizza to Mt. Pleasant after well-known success with their other restaurant endeavors, SAVI Cucina + Wine Bar and Sommba Gastrobar. Located in the Indigo Square shopping center, the opening of Woodhaven represents a long-awaited dream for Ty to bring to life his experiences of growing up in Queens to South Carolina. Inspired by the Woodhaven subway stop in the lively Queens neighborhood of New York City, Woodhaven Pizza will offer classic, comforting pies and innovative flavors.

BENE has expanded its ownership group to include James Beard recognized Chef Vincent Barcelona as Chief Culinary Officer at BENE Hospitality Group, who brings a rich culinary heritage to Woodhaven and the BENE organization. Born into a family that immigrated from Sicily, Barcelona’s roots trace back to the establishment of Barcelona’s Pizzeria, a pie shop in New Jersey that his family opened in 1933 and continues to operate to this day. Also joining the BENE organization with this new venture are Craig and Sonia Sodano. With family ties back to pizza making in Naples, Craig has over 20 years of experience in the Italian restaurant and pizza business, as well as being longtime friends of the Raju & Barcelona families. 

With over 100 years of NYC-style and Neapolitan pizza-making experience between partners Raju, Sodano and Barcelona, Woodhaven’s well-versed menu will feature Signature Pies, Sicilian Square Style and New York City Style pizzas along with menu staples such as Insalatas and Pastas. The beverage offerings will continue to be up to BENE Hospitality standards, reflecting similar wine and cocktail options found at SAVI and Sommba.

Woodhaven will be open Monday – Thursday from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., Friday – Saturday from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. with daily happy hour from 3 – 5 p.m.

  • This holiday season SAVI and Sommba are partnering with My Sister’s House, a local non- profit committed to ending the cycle of domestic violence, to donate 10% of all wine sales.
