SK8 Charleston Hosting Hawaiian Luau & Street Bowl Contest May 18

Charleston County Parks is partnering with Parrot Surf & Skate Shop to bring vibrant Hawaiian vibes and a lot of fun to SK8 Charleston! The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s SK8 Charleston skate park will host a Hawaiian Luau and Street Bowl Contest on Saturday, May 18 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The event is open for skateboarders wishing to participate, as well as spectators and those wanting to enjoy the festivities. 

Event-goers will witness some of the best skaters in the area compete on the street course and bowls of this premier skate park. Other festivities will include live music from Duplex, delicious food from Seol Ah’s Food Truck, and the aloha spirit. 

Gates open at 10 a.m., with contests running from 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. See a full schedule below.

Contest Schedule:

  • 11 a.m.: Beginner Street
  • 11:30 a.m.: Intermediate Street
  • 12:30 p.m.: Beginner Bowl
  • 1 p.m.: Intermediate Bowl
  • 2 p.m.: Advanced Pro Bowl
  • 2:30 p.m.: Best Trick Pro Bowl Jam
  • 3 p.m.: Advanced Street
  • 3:30 p.m.: Best Trick Street

For skateboarders wishing to participate, entry fees are $3 per skater and include admission to the park. Spectators will be free of charge. Annual Skate Pass holders will also receive free admission and entry fees to the event. 

Registration is now open online at https://www.ccprc.com/3746 and will also be available on-site the day of the event. The day’s competitions will be judged by a variety of skateboarders from the Charleston community. Prizes will be provided by Parrot Surf & Skate Shop. Hawaiian clothing is encouraged at the Luau.

Owned and operated by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, SK8 Charleston is a regional-sized concrete skate park that spans over 32,000 square feet. The park, which opened in 2017, is located on the neck area of the Charleston peninsula at 1549 Oceanic Street. SK8 Charleston features an intermediate bowl, a pro bowl, a 200-foot-long snake run, and a 300-foot-long street course. The site also features a building offering a small skate shop, restrooms, concessions and seating areas. SK8 Charleston is open each Wednesday through Monday for skateboarding, and on Tuesdays for BMX bikers. Accessible parking and restrooms are available on site.
