The Footlight Players Summer Theatre Series to Bring Acclaimed L.A. Based Show ‘Einstein’ to Queen Street Playhouse

CHARLESTON, SC, (MAY 6, 2024) – Self-producing their own Summe\r Theatre Series during this year’s annual Spoleto/Piccolo festivals period, Footlight Players will be present the regional premiere of L.A. -based actor and writer Jack Fry’s one-man show

Einstein! beginning May 26th at the Queen Street Playhouse.

The multi-award winning and critically acclaimed one man show is the longest running solo theatre show in Los Angeles history and has played in theatres throughout the country. Veteran LA based actor Jack Fry brings Einstein back from the beyond in this one-of-a-kind solo show ‘filled with humor, wit, and humanity.’ (Theater Scene NY). Fry also inhabits eight different personas during his performance, including several movers-and-shakers of the then scientific world as well as his 10 year old son Hans and of course Einstein himself.

Focusing on Einstein’s earlier years when he was on the cusp of his greatest breakthroughs in physics, the show takes us back to 1914 Berlin where he is sent sideways in a world crumbling around him due to The Great War, a science establishment that doesn’t believe him and those that try to wrestle the theory away from him. Isolated for his pacifist views and with a wife who won’t give him a divorce, Einstein faces a huge scientific backlash, anti-Semitism and finally a nervous breakdown that kept him bed ridden for two months. This critically acclaimed, multi-media show is told with great humor and visual graphics that help give insight into one of the world’s most brilliant minds, brought to life by a bold and innovative performance by visiting artist Jack Fry.

Also on the schedule is a revival of last summer’s comedy hit Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche, the subversive and charmingly hysterical interactive show which sees the audience sitting on stage with the ladysisters at their atomic annual Susan B Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein quiche breakfast. Rounding out the series will be the totally awesome Decade of Decadence concert, a costume encouraged 80s live music performance event!

Five Lesbians Eating A Quiche – June 4, 5, 6 & 7 (6pm and 8pm shows varying days)

Decade of Decadence – June 8 at 8pm and June 9 at 7:30pm
