johnnie-O and M. Dumas Celebrate New Downtown Charleston Store at The Charleston Place

Charleston, SC, — johnnie-O, the beloved men’s lifestyle brand, has collaborated with M. Dumas & Sons, Charleston’s iconic men’s specialty retailer, to introduce a new flagship store in the heart of downtown Charleston, located at The Charleston Place.

The store opened in early September and has already experienced the energy and excitement of the Charleston market – further reinforcing the natural fit between the johnnie-O and M. Dumas brands and their connection with the coastal, Lowcountry lifestyle.

On Thursday, November 16th, the store kicked off a grand opening and holiday shopping event attended by media, influencers, community figures, and loyal brand fans including Southern Charm’s Shep Rose, as we usher in the holiday shopping season. Attendees enjoyed specialty drinks, food, and entertainment as they shopped the rich array of men’s and boys’ apparel, accessories, and footwear.

The new store is situated at 132 Market Street, within The Charleston Place, paying homage to Charleston’s rich history and style. This historic building holds special significance in the city’s fashion heritage as the original home of M. Dumas & Sons. The space has been meticulously restored to capture the essence of both brands, blending old-world charm with modern design.

This is johnnie-O’s first co-branded retail store in Charleston, though customers can also shop a selection of johnnie-O apparel and accessories at the M. Dumas location at 294 King St.

The store will welcome shoppers from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M., and Sundays, 12:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M.

John Collins, CEO of johnnie-O, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “The johnnie-o team is overwhelmed by the reception to our new co-branded store in Charleston Place. We are honored that M. Dumas, a local fixture in Charleston for over 100 years, chose to partner with our brand. Whether you’re strolling along the harbor, playing 18 holes nearby, or enjoying some of the city’s many culinary delights, Charleston is simply a special place. We are grateful for the warm southern welcome and look forward to serving the community in the months and years to come.”

Gary Flynn, President and Co-Owner of M. Dumas & Sons, added, “M. Dumas & Sons is proud to join forces with johnnie-O to introduce this dynamic new retail experience in downtown Charleston in the same building as the original M. Dumas store. Our rich history and commitment to quality align perfectly with johnnie-O’s values, making this venture a natural fit. We’re confident that our customers will be as thrilled as we are to see these two iconic brands come together under one roof.”

Dumas & Sons evolved into becoming the sole provider of uniforms for naval officers stationed in the seaside town, as well as offering an expansive array of hunting and outdoor apparel. Beginning in the 1960s, M. Dumas & Sons became known for its fashion denim and transitioned full-time into the men’s apparel arena in 1993 with the addition of Tommy Bahama to its product offerings, when Tommy Bahama was a little-known brand.
