6 Italian Restaurants in the Lowcountry That Will Leave You Wanting More

By Mark A. Leon

We’d know there are some truly gifted restaurants offering Italian cuisine in the Charleston area. From rustic terrain to metros to beach, we have your covered. Here are 6 options that will leave you more than satisfied of the Old Country.

1. Indaco – 526 King St, Charleston, SC 29403 – Located downtown on King Street, Indaco is known for its homemade pastas, wood-fired pizzas, and innovative Italian cuisine.

2. Wild Olive – 2867 Maybank Hwy, Johns Island, SC 29455 – Situated on Johns Island, Wild Olive offers exquisite Italian fare in a comfortable setting, with a focus on local ingredients. This is also the same group that owns and operates The Obstinate Daughter on Sullivan’s Island.

3. Coda del Pesce – 1130 Ocean Blvd, Isle of Palms, SC 29451 – This beachfront restaurant on Isle of Palms specializes in seafood-forward Italian cuisine. Award winning Ken Vedrinski is executive chef, owner, and sommelie.

4. Melfi’s – 721 King St, Charleston, SC 29403 – This King Street restaurant offers a menu full of authentic Italian dishes with creative innovations in an enchanting environment.

5. Renzo – 384 Huger St #4126, Charleston, SC 29403 – A hip neighborhood trattoria with a wood-fired oven, Renzo is known for its creative Neapolitan-style pizzas and extensive natural wine selection. Though not traditional Italian, the Korean Chicken and Caesar salad are two of the finest dishes in all of Charleston. FYI – the Caesar is enough for two. They are closed on Sunday and Monday and we strongly recommend reservations based on the small occupancy and popularity of the restaurant.

6. Fratello’s Italian Tavern – 1050 E Montague Ave, Charleston, SC 29405 – Fratello’s lies in the heart of Park Circle and offers a tradition casual Italian dining experience with an intimate menu of robust dishes that have been passed down for generations. We highly recommend the Melenzane Rollentine and Manicotti Al Forno.

These restaurants offer a range of experiences, from casual to upscale, and showcase both traditional and innovative approaches to Italian cuisine in the Charleston area.
